Industry,
Ca. – In February of 2006, it became illegal to dispose
of household electronic materials. Electronic Waste (E-Waste)
is a popular, informal name for electronic products nearing
the end of their “useful life.” Computers, televisions,
VCR?s, stereos, copiers, fax machines are common electronic
products that are no longer allowed in the landfill system.
Universal
Waste (U-Waste) is a term used for hazardous wastes that
are more common and pose a lower risk to people and the environment
than other hazardous wastes. In February 2006 a moratorium
allowing residents to dispose Universal Wastes such as lamps,
thermostats, switches, household batteries, cell phones game
counsels, etc. expired. In January 2007, the California Integrated
Waste Management Board (CIWMB) allocated nearly $300,000
in grant funds to support a new electronic waste collection
program for the residents of La Puente.
This
collection and recycling program is offered to all residential
customers of Valley Vista Services at no additional charge
to their current monthly fee. All residents wishing to dispose
of any and all electronic waste materials can simply call
Valley Vista Services (800-442-6454) to schedule no cost
collection or come by our drop off center in the City of
Industry.
The
new collection program is just like your current bulky item
collection, just call the Valley Vista Services customer
service department to schedule a free pick-up. Residents
wishing to drop-off their materials are also offered free
collection at Grand Central Recycling in Industry.
With
your help Valley Vista Services will not only keep these
E-Waste and U-Waste items out of the landfill, they will
recycle them to save natural resources for future generations.
