Forceps

Forceps can be made from the metal strapping found around brick and block building materials. This strapping is normally thrown away at home improvement stores. All you need to do is ask a clerk if you may have a few strips of the material. Invest in a good pair of metal shears (about $12.00 at the hardware store). To construct the forceps, cut strips at any desired length (7 to 8 inches is sufficient), then trim both ends to a point. Bend in half, matching the points, and the forceps are complete.

Funnel

Funnels can be made from the shoulder and neck portion of plastic bottles. Simply cut the top portion of the bottle with a sharp blade to make an incision. Complete the cutting with scissors.

Running Water

Any classroom can have running water at each desk. Take a wood handled awl and hold it in the flame of a candle or your gas stove. When it begins to glow red, pierce the center of a plastic cap of a small water or soda bottle. Fill the bottle with water and recap. When the bottle is inverted and gently squeezed a stream of water is emitted.
